Israel Supporters Rally: "Counter the Lies"
On Tuesday, November 3rd, approximately two dozen supporters of Israel gathered across the street from Gates concert hall at
the University of Denver to show support for Jerusalem Mayor Nir Birkat who was speaking inside. Their stated purpose was:
“Counter the Lies”, in response to accusations at a rally of anti-Israel forces across the street.
The pro-Israel side called for their response only the night before when leaders saw what they called “wild, untruthful accusations
against Israel” on the pro-Palestinian websites which issued a call for their anti-Israel rally. The websites’ rhetoric said Birkat should
not be allowed to speak, and glorified disruptive actions aimed at pro-Israel figures in other cities. Leaders from Americans Against
Terrorism, Stand With US, Stand By Israel, and Action Israel formed a coalition and put together what they called an “emergency
response” in less than 24 hours.
Both sides remained peaceful despite chanting from the anti-Israel side that directed their accusations against Jews instead of
against Israel. Leaders from both sides seemed to want to avoid a confrontation on the streets, but the anti-Israel side protestors
were later observed disrupting Birkats’ speech repeatedly inside. One disruptor was removed from the lecture hall by security forces.
